VAC Construction Update, Upcoming Events, Volunteers Needed

Apr 01, 13 VAC Construction Update, Upcoming Events, Volunteers Needed

Volunteers NeededDuring most of the month of April we will be suspending in-house activities to include furniture pick-ups & group meetings as we begin interior construction of the Veteran Activity Center.  We’re also in the process of setting up a program with new resources.

We would like to thank KAMCO building supply for generously donating framing and drywall materials so that we can begin the build out.  We still are looking for some finish materials and are currently talking to Home Depot representatives, but we are in immediate need of electrical materials (wiring & conduit).   We will soon be painting the open ceiling as well as the concrete floor and walls before constructing most of the walls, anyone wishing to volunteer or if you own a spray machine and can be of assistance please let us know.

Please don’t forget we collect items for care package donations year round.  These items go to Troops stationed overseas in Harms Ways and to Veterans diagnosed with PTSD and hospitalized in local VA’s.  Care package collections are great for school children and scout programs, as it teaches them a responsibility to take care of Our Military and not forget Our Veterans.  We also have supporters that collect items at house and yard parties.  We can provide collection crates and pick-ups of donations as well, or they can be dropped off by appointment at our Ronkonkoma VAC location.

Our annual Robert Cafici PTSD Awareness Dinner and Chinese auction will be taking place in May this year, and details of this event will be release shortly.  If anyone would like to join the cause and sponsor this event or even volunteer with the event, please let me know.  We will also be needing items for the Chinese auction (baskets, gift certificates, services, etc.)

This May we will be going down to Arlington National Cemetery to bring a Gold Star Mother to visit her son’s grave, Army Staff Sgt. Frank E. Adamski III, who was killed in Action on March 29th, 2011.  Anyone wishing to ride down with us, we will be leaving on Friday evening, May 10th, and returning Saturday night May 11th.

Thank You for Supporting Boots on the Ground NY.
