Collection day for Food & Veteran Support Pantry

Sep 25, 14 Collection day for Food & Veteran Support Pantry

Were just a small group of Veterans working alongside the local VA doing what we can to help our fellow Veterans. We encounter homeless Veterans every day, the VA is doing what they can to get these Veterans off the streets, out of shelters and into housing. That’s where we step in, once the VA helps them get situated they notify us and give us the Veterans contact. These Veterans usually have nothing more than a bag of clothing and an air mattress.

We respond to them with a houseful of furnishings, enough food to get there pantry stocked, new mattresses and anything else they need to start off this new era in their life. What we supply to these Veterans come from community donations and food drives.

With the summer coming to an end, more Veterans will be looking for help and to get off the streets. The VA will soon be getting government HUD VASH vouchers and will soon be placing more Veterans into apartments. We need to be ready to respond.

Our next food collection drives will be on Saturday September 27th & Saturday October 18th at the VAC (Veterans Activity Center) located at 2184 Pond Road, Ronkonkoma NY 11779. Collection hours will be 0930-1430 hours. Food can be canned, boxed or frozen. Toiletries will be accepted as well. During this collection drive we will also be accepting pot/pan sets, dishes / glasses set, silverware, microwaves, coffee pots, toasters.

We also need to be able to furnish new mattresses. We do not collect / accept used mattresses and believe every Veteran should at the least have a new comfortable bed to call his own. We have a link on our website where donations can be made specifically for this only.

We have Veterans that are relying upon us & we are relying upon you.
