December at Boots on the Ground NY

Dec 09, 15 December at Boots on the Ground NY

This time of year we get so many referral and requests from Veterans and caseworkers.

To assist veterans with rent, medical bills, car repairs, food, legal bills, funeral expenses and of course Christmas. The Holidays are always hardest with the combination of the colder weather setting in.

Boots on the ground NY uses your donations to go towards Veteran Support, the Veteran Activity Center, or to ship Military Care Packages, that’s it, never a salary as BOTGNY is 100% Volunteer.

For a little as $5 a month you can help Support those that took the Oath and stood/stand for US.

We have Military Care Package Collection crates available for anyone wishing to display one for collection at their office or business. Crates are available at the VAC, their slightly bulky and built to look like a military supply crate, signs are also available. They can be picked up at the VAC tonight between 6p-8p or by appointment by using the link on our website

If anyone’s interested tonight in volunteering time tonight (Wednesday 12/9) we’ll be there at 6pm till about 8pm, sorting donations and prepping care package labels. The VAC is located at 2184 Pond Road, Ronkonkoma NY.

Please don’t forget our December and Christmas Collection date this month on 12/19. The VAC will be open from 10a-4p that Saturday for collections of unwrapped toys, food (boxes, canned or frozen), toiletries, military care package items, new packages of socks, underwear, t-shirts, sweatpants and shirts for hospitalized and homeless Veterans. There will be live music from 11-1 and also we will have food out all day, so come down and hang out at the VAC Saturday the 19th.

Please also feel free to bring any food you care to make or bake, as this is also a pot luck day. Any food left over will be brought to the Northport VA hospital for Veterans living there. We will be delivering supplies and holiday cheer to them over that weekend as well.

Boots on the Ground NY has once again taken on over 50 Dear Santa lists from Veteran Families, so any new toys, gift cards, new housewares, new bed sheets/towels/linens are appreciated.

Next Tuesdays Veteran Activity Night at the VAC will be spending the evening prepping for the Saturday event. Lights will be on by 1830 hrs that evening and we will have chow available. The following Tuesday (12/22) we will be attending the Christmas party of another Veteran organization and on Tuesday (12/29) we may take the group bowling. Last night the group went to the movies to see “Creed”. Tuesday nights at the VAC are Veteran / Military only, with doors usually open by 1900 but sometimes 1830 hrs, please check our Facebook or website for evening details or email for more details.

This Sunday Boots on the Ground NY is taking Veterans / Military to the NY Jets Military Appreciation game. We plan on leaving the VAC early and doing some tailgating then watching the 1p game, if you would like to attend with us please email for details, tickets are limited as they have been purchased already along with a few parking passes. BOTGNY is providing the tickets and the tailgate at no cost. This is available only to Veterans & Military.

And spread the word … The Huge Annual Military Care package event will be at the Emporium of Patchogue on Sunday January 31st from 2pm till 8pm. Live music by Decadia and 45 RPM, free buffet.

All ages event, last year at this event we packed over a total of 2000 care packages, and over 830 people attended. Please start gathering items to ship to the Troops, this year our goal is 2500 packages which means over 50,000 pounds of supplies and also in the area of $30,000 to ship packages, so anything you can do to help us raise funds, spread news about the event and encourage community groups, schools, scouts to start organizing collections is welcome. This year there will be a $5 donation at the door with all funds going directly to shipping these care packages to Our Troops over in Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, on the seas and on the line protecting US.
