Jan 19, 16 Weekly update (1/19) and Upcoming Programs / Workshops.

Just wanted to drop and note of thanks to everyone that is supporting the Annual Military Care Package Event. We have dozens of schools, and dozens of scouting & cadet groups already conducting collections and activities in preparation of the pack out on the 31st at the Emporium.

Out of the past 7 annual pack outs, this one is sure to be the biggest. It looks like a 3000 box day! So far we have had four corporate sponsors step up for the event so far: Alure Home Improvements, Florence Building Materials, Grainger Industrial Supply & The Murray Law Group. If anyone else would be interested we are looking for a minimum $500 Donation that will go towards shipping, your company would be able to bring and hang banners at the event and also have a reserved VIP seating area overlooking the stage.

Veterans don’t forget tonight is “Veteran peer Activity night” at the VAC with doors opening by 1830 hrs tonight and chow by 1900. Last week the group had a great time traveling to NYC to be a guest of Paramount Films to see the advanced screening of ’13 Hours’. Each Tuesday night we conduct a different Veteran / Military activity night, and thanks to the goodness of the community, different supporters have been supplying home cooked meal for all the events at the VAC, and I’d just like to thank you all for that.

Wednesday event (tomorrow night) we are asking for Volunteers again to assist us in prepping for the pack out. From 1800-2100 hrs we will be at the VAC addressing labels and custom forms, and yes the coffee will be hot, and the VAC warm (thank to everyone who showed up last week) (and yes we will most likely be there next Wednesday night also finishing up addresses.

Thursday evening, we begin a new night of support group – “Recovery in the Trenches”. This group is open to all Veteran / Military, its completely anonymous also. Doors will be open at 7pm with chow available and group to start by 1930hrs. This support group is for any type of addiction.

Saturday / Sunday the VAC will not have any activities for this weekend, but we will post on our Facebook page if anyone is in need of help shoveling their driveways.

Saturday January 30th we will be at the VAC getting the trailer ready and loaded for the pack-out the next day, any volunteers can report to the VAC at 1000 hrs that day. At around 1100 hours we will have a quick volunteer meeting in regards to the pack-out.

Tuesday Night the 26th, we have been invited by Disney & Allied to see the advanced screening of “Finest Hours” a new movie about a dramatic Coast Guard rescue. Any veterans or military that would like to attend with is to the Farmingdale event please contact us.

In February we will be adding three new programs / workshops. The first will be a free guitar work shop for beginners and novice player. This will be a every other Monday evening workshop. We will also be pairing up with Unchained NY and forming a Veteran outreach program to assist local dogs. There will also be a weekly Obedience school offered to any Veterans’ / military members and their dogs at the VAC on Saturday morning (beginning 2/13). More information will be put out about these new programs on our website and Facebook pages.

The VAC (veterans Activity Center) is located at 2184 Pond Road, Ronkonkoma, NY 631-615-2200.
