What coming up at Boots on the Ground NY

Saturday (3/19) – Food & Care Package collection drive. Every third Saturday of every month our doors are open for collections for our food, toiletries & care package pantries

Not only do we stock our pantry but we deliver to Veterans as they transition from shelters to housing and also food pantry locates at the Northport VA at the Beacon House Homeless shelter there.

We also ship monthly to Troops overseas so always looking for supplies to ship to them.

Where: The VAC 2184 Pond Road, Ronkonkoma NY

Time: 1000 hrs till 1500 hrs.

Saturday / Sunday / Thursday– Our Veteran Support team heads out on select Thursdays evenings & Saturday days to pick up and deliver furniture to veterans that are in process of transitioning from homeless status to housing. We are always in need of Volunteers that are able to assist with this mission. You must be able to lift/carry furniture and be over 18 years old. Sunday (3/20) – Lets Support HONOR FLIGHT LONG ISLAND!

This Sunday at the Emporium we are working with Honor Flight Long Island on a benefit to raise funds to help then send 50 World War 2 Veterans to DC to see their memorial and a tour of DC. They do this twice a year and the Veterans fly, travel and eat for Free. HFLI operated by collecting financial donations from the community. There will be a buffet, raffles, auctions and three great bands.

When: 1500hrs – 2000 hrs

Monday (3/21) Guitar lessons for Veterans & Military at the VAC.

Tuesday (every Tuesday) Veteran Peer Activity Night 1900-2100 hrs

Sundays (every other) Therapy dog training free for Veterans & Military.

TO be part of this program email is at and we will set up a evaluation for your canine buddy and we’ll get you in the next round of classes. If you are interested in adopting a dog also contact us and we’ll have our Dog training partner ‘Unchained New York’ reach out to you and help you find the best match for you based upon you, your situation, lifestyle and housing.

Monday (3/29) kick off night for new group

Female Veterans peer group at the VAC

Doors open 1900 hrs. this group is for female Veterans only, stop down to this first night and be part of the discussion on the focus of this group. The group will decide the frequency of schedule this group will take in the future.

Monday (4/4) Monthly Seminar & open to the public and we encourage all Military & Veteran Families to attend, and to all care givers.

This month’s topic is “Addressing Moral Injury to Prevent Military Suicide” which will focus on unspoken spiritual impact of performing duties that may be in conflict with deeply held beliefs. Presentation includes specific veteran warning signs and strategies to assist.

Where: The VAC 2184 Pond Road, Ronkonkoma

When: doors open at 1800 hrs, discussion starts at 1900 sharp.

Thursday night is also a Veteran peer night with doors open at 1900. We are working on a format for this evening.

Wednesday (first Wednesday night of each month)

Will be Volunteer night, with doors opening by 1800 hrs.

This will be a night for anyone in the community to stop down, pitch in on whatever the task is that night, come share ideas on how to help with BOTGNY missions, or bring down items to ship to the Troops. The focus of that monthly night will be mentioned on our Facebook page and group.

Upcoming events

Sunday April 24th

5th Annual BOTGNY benefit and PTSD awareness event in Memory of USMC Robert Cafici. Tickets available on our website and at the door. This is also the evening we pull the wining raffle ticket. See a Boots team member for more information. We once again have an anonymous sponsor for this event which means that every dime raised at this event is going into the programs 100%.

Our annual event as we have grill up lunch for Veterans that now reside at the VA Hospital. Live music by Matt Levine Band. We need sponsors to cover the cost of the food and t-shirts that are provided, please talk to a Boots team member or check our website for more info.

“Understanding the Impact of Service on Military Families”

What we are always seeking and collecting:

 What we need for the food pantry……………

 (BOTGNY maintains food pantries that feeds hundreds of vets (between our location and other pantries we supply)

 Canned foods, such as soups, meals in a can, chef boy r dee, cans of tuna fish, turkey, chicken, fruit, etc. Frozen Foods- (we have 3 freezers and 2 fridges). Pasta and sauce, Mac and cheese. Boxed foods, cereals, carbs, breakfast bars, etc. Coffee, (cans and k-cups). Snacks, (individual packets).

 What we need for Military Care Packages……….

 (BOTGNY ships care package items twice a month to troops overseas)

 Jerky, Tuna packets. Nuts, granola, protein and breakfast bars

 Coffee (k-cups). Laundry detergent (pods). Puzzle Books. Green & black socks. Tan and green t-shirts

 Snacks, (individual packets). Sun tan lotion. Flea Collars & Dog treats (for dog handlers)

 What we need for hospitalized Veterans……….

 (BOTGNY make visits and supplies Veterans in hospitals and inpatient programs with supplies they need, toiletries, phone cards, clothing (socks/sweats/t-shirt’s/underwear)

 Phone cards. Toiletries. Sweat pants & shirts. Socks, t-shirts and underwear.

 We are also always need microwaves, coffee makers, countertop appliances, household electronics, new sets of bedding and linens, pot, pans and dish sets for our Veteran Support programs (which helps furnishes homes of veterans who recently transitioned from homeless in housing.
