Boots on the Ground NY UPDATE

Thank you to everyone that has been donating funds to our programs, and for all the food and turkey the past few weekends!

This upcoming Tuesday night at the VAC (Veteran Peer night), we’ll be staying in house watching election results from 1830 hours till late. C’mon down there will be refreshments, coffee, chow and snacks. We still have community members make and bring down dinner for our Tuesday group, if interested in making a homecooked meal for Our Veteran night please contact us, or in this week, just drop off show or baked goods between 6:30 pm and 7:30 PM, extra food never goes to waste as we invite everyone to take home doggie bags. The past few weeks the Veteran peer night group has gone bowling and to Adventure park for nights of camaraderie, the Tuesday night group is for all veterans of all branches, just check out the weekly event on our website page of Facebook under events. We’ll be going bowling again on the 29th of this month.

We’re in the middle of our Turkey and Food drive – Operation Turkey Drop 2016, last year we collected over 360, this year 350 is our goal, as we plan to offer a turkey and bags of groceries to over 350 Veteran families that are currently in housing programs right here on Long Island. So far we are at 48 turkeys and 70 prepackaged boxes of groceries, we’ll be collecting every Saturday at the VAC and some select evening, please check our website page or our Facebook events for more info and dates.

Veterans in appreciation of your service and Veterans My Country 96.1 has donated 25 complimentary tickets for the Thursday night Concert Eric Paslay at the Emporium. This concert will also be a Military Care package collection drop off point with Boots on the Ground NY bins at the front door. Please everyone, support the Collection Drive, we have Troops counting on us.

Veterans please contact Frank B ( ) or message us on Facebook  for your ticket to the show. It’s a limited number so please be a fan of country music, and please use the ticket if you accept one. Thanks.

Anyone that would like to purchase a ticket to the show:

As many of you may know the Big PACK OUT has been planned for months, and just keeps getting bigger, the date is Sunday January 29th, and at the Emporium located in Patchogue, this is the 8th annual, and the 4th one at the Emporium. We will have 8 bands and bands and musicians taking the stage through the day. This event is all about the Troops and the goal is to collect over 75,000 pounds of supplies to ship. Last January we had over 1300 attendees and collected in the area of 78,000 pounds. We have pictures from last years’ event on our Facebook photo pages. We will need sponsors to get this done. If your company would be interested, please contact us. To make a donation or learn more about our care package program please visit the link:

Saturday December 10th, our annual Christmas event, we will be hosting a Breakfast donation/collection drop off from 0900-1500 hrs.

For a few years, we would use FD halls and posts for big breakfast events, charge door donations, it was a lot of work and people just don’t have much time or money around the holidays to spend out of their family. So, last year we started with a causal drop off event at the VAC, the VAC is the Home to Boots on the Ground NY family, so why not again just be Home for the Holidays?

We’ll have your basic continental type breakfast going on all morning (bagels, meats, eggs, oatmeal, cereal, juice, COFFEE, etc). (if anyone would like to make anything or trays of any food that can be put out for lunch please feel free to do so,)

We are looking for the following to be dropped off….

  1. Items for hospitalized Veterans, such as socks, t-shirts, sweatpants and sweatshirts, knit hats, etc
  2. Food pantry items, all boxed, canned or frozen foods
  3. unwrapped toys for kids, we don’t have a count yet on how many families we be assisting parents with supplying Christmas Cheer this year. These children belong to veteran and active duty military families. We could also use new clothing for kids of all sizes, winter jackets, etc.
  4. Care package items for Troops overseas.

Last year following this collection event, we had Veteran & Military families that needed assistance come in one evening and pick up what they needed to have a proper family Christmas. We also sent 100’s of pounds of toys to local active duty serving Troops to help them provide a nice Christmas for their kids. And then right before the Christmas Holiday we worked alongside caseworkers providing a holiday Christmas party for Veterans in the Hud Vash Program.

We will have live music at the VAC as well as brunch available from 10 AM – 3 PM and the VAC will be open till at least 4 pm for you to drop off donations.

If anyone would like to make a tray of food, bake cookies or muffins, please do so, we will have a buffet type meal available all day.

This is a free event, but donations are always accepted and needed for us to continue the mission.

For more information:

The first weekend in December we are taking 15 World War 2 Veterans “Our Greatest Generation” to the WW2 Museum in New Orleans. This is an overnight trip and will be completely free to our Veterans attending. We are still in need of financial donations for this trip, please visit the link:

Our furniture’s donation n program is still a successful one, assisting veterans as they transition from Homeless shelters and status to housing. Although our biggest problem is storage and volunteers. We currently have more offers coming in then we can store, so we are looking for a storage solution, as well as needing more volunteers to assist us with this mission.

Veterans please remember our Tuesday night peer night, stop in just to hang out with other Veterans and learn more about us, there’s always chow, some nights we have outings, the VAC houses a food pantry, a toilet pantry and even a pet food pantry. Were about keeping Veterans connected, and the VAC is where Veterans come together. Its located at 2184 Pond Road, Ronkonkoma.

We are currently looking for yard space in the Ronkonkoma/Bohemia area. Boots on the Ground NY has 2 support trailer and a support van, that cannot be housed at the VAC location as the landlord states we are in violation of town of Islip codes by keeping them in the parking lot, so we are looking for somewhere secure and accessible to park them. If you can help us, please reach out.

For more information of number at the VAC is 631-615-2200,

Our mailing address is PO Box 675 Bellport NY 11713.

TO make a donation to help us accomplish the mission:

No dollar will ever go to a salary; Boots on the Ground NY is 100% Volunteer.

We just had an independent audit done for our 2015 year, and we spent 95.5% of every dollar on Veterans and programs, the other 4.5% went to costs such as tax filing, accountant and website charges.

We do the best job we can at making sure we get the most from every dollar you donate.

Just in the past few weeks, we have purchased over ten mattress bed sets, assisted with car repairs, home heating bills, medical bills and security funds for housing. We have also been paying for security guard training and certification for Veterans and just recently helped a veteran to provide a specialty wheelchair for his son.

Thank you for your Support
