It’s time for our 7th Annual Holiday breakfast. With a food buffet & live music.

Saturday December 10th, at the Veterans Activity Center, 2184 Pond Road Ronkonkoma

For a few years, we would use FD halls and posts for big breakfast events, charge door donations, it was a lot of work and people just don’t have much time or money around the holidays to spend out of their family. So, last year we started with a causal drop off event at the VAC, the VAC is the Home to Boots on the Ground NY family, so why not again just be Home for the Holidays?

All donations go towards providing Christmas gifts, food and provide emergency funds and to our Veteran Support Program account, which provides needed items for local Veterans.

Doors will open 0930 hrs and food will be available till 2pm, and we will be there collecting till 4pm that day. Live Music by Dennis O’Donnell.

This will also be a collection point for Toys and gifts for our Veteran families that we will adopt for this holiday season. The Dear Santa wish lists of the children are posted in a separate picture album located on our Facebook page but any toys or gift cards for children of all ages are accepted, as well as clothing and footwear. (www.facebook.com/bootsonthegroundny ).

At this event, we also are collecting items for hospitalized Veterans (such as socks, underwear, sweatpants, sweatshirts and t-shirts) & nonperishable & frozen foods for Our Veteran Food Pantry as well as items to ship to Our Troops with our Military Care Package program. If anyone would like to provide any prepared meals, baked good or snacks please feel free to bring them along…

We are also still looking for any food distributors, grocery or restaurant/delis that would be willing to donate food. Just so you know, no food from the event gets wasted, left over prepared foods get delivered to Veteran housing & to the VA Hospital in Northport.

At the end of this event we will be going through all the donated toys and breaking out all the Dear Santa letters, then sorting, wrapping, tagging so “Santa” can make deliveries that evening. With so many Children this year, please don’t worry about duplicate gifts, as they will be spread around.

This is a free event, but donations are always accepted and needed for us to continue the mission.

Children’s wish lists: (more lists will be added as we receive them) https://www.facebook.com/BootsOnTheGroundNY/photos/?tab=album&album_id=661736704000539

Those lists are the Dear Santa lists of children of Military Veterans. The families we have chosen this year have not had an easy time. These families have recently been placed though a special government program in to new stable and safe housing, this may be their first holiday in a new place to finally call home. Please feel free to bring these items or anything that may fit close to the child’s list (they don’t need to be filled exactly, but at least we have an idea of the children interests), clothing and footwear are big needs also.

These items can be dropped off at the VAC (Veterans Activity Center) on the following dates & times:

Saturday December 3rd 9am-noon

Wednesday December 7th 6pm till 9pm.

Saturday December 10th 9am – 4pm – Holiday breakfast

Saturday December 17th 10am – 3pm

With so many Children this year, please don’t worry about duplicate gifts, as they will be spread around all our outreach programs this Christmas. (there will be well over 160 children benefiting from the BOTGNY Operation Toy Drop 2016

What we’re looking for.

New unwrapped Toys, Food, Gift Cards, Care Package Items, Sweat suits and socks/underwear. New housewares. New bedsheets/linens.

Toys will be split between Veterans (80 kids) we have assisted this year as well as Veterans that are on HUD VASH and working with Concerned Living. Additional toys will also be split with Reserve & Recruiting units, toys will be made available for veterans in shelters, veterans hospital and inpatient programs. We will also be hosting an evening right before Christmas that allows veterans to come down and “shop” free of charge for toys, gift wrap, food and personal care items, so that their Christmas will be as memorable as possible.

Nonperishable & frozen food will go to our food pantry and two other food pantries we assist that assist veterans.

Gift cards (food stores (King Kullen, Shoprite, stop-n-shop) /Target/Wal-Mart/CVS) will be split up among the families we assist.

Housewares/ linens will go to families we are assisting this holiday season.

New clothing such as sweats, socks, underwear, etc. will be taken to Veterans residing at the Northport VA hospital.
