Boots on the Ground NY “Leaving No Veteran Behind” The VAC “where Veterans come together” Weekly Schedule: Veterans Stop in for: Monday evening – female Veteran peer support group Tuesday evening- Veteran peer support group Wednesday evening –Recovery in the Trenches  (12 step recovery support group) For these meetings doors open at 1900 hrs. – 2100 hrs. Meetings start promptly at 1930 hrs. Sometimes there’s chow, but always coffee, snacks & refreshments available at 1900hrs. These are all new meetings/ groups. Please help us spread the word to encourage all Veterans of any era or character of discharge to attend. They need to know about the help for it to work. We will soon be starting a weekly family support group for parents, spouses, etc.   This Winter we will begin a monthly seminar which will include topics such as: “Understanding the Psychological Impact of War-Zone Exposure and Coming Home” which explores military sexual trauma, PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury and moral injury and relation to suicide prevention. “Addressing Moral Injury to Prevent Military Suicide” focuses on unspoken spiritual impact of performing duties that may be in conflict with deeply held beliefs.  Presentation includes specific veteran warning signs and strategies to assist. “Understanding the Impact of Service on Military Families” explores dynamics of cycles of deployment on family members, including children and ways to foster resilience and re-connection. These seminars will be open to the public.   Sunday Morning PT / Boot Camp – is suspended until April and will run till October annually. This is a partnered program with World Gym and done under the mentoring of a certified personal trainer and Marine Veteran. Can you please help us  let All Veterans know about the Boots on the Ground NY’s VAC (Veterans Activity Center).   Tuesday evenings are a peer to peer group for combat Veterans. Doors open at 1900 hrs, groups start around 1930 hrs. Food, snacks, refreshments provided. VAC also has pool table, TV area, and computer resource area.   Wednesday evenings we have a 12 step recovery program. Doors open at 1900 hrs, groups start around 1930 hrs. Food, snacks, refreshments provided. VAC also has pool table, TV area, and computer resource area.   Saturday mornings (check website or Facebook). We have various degrees of community volunteer programs or volunteer work within the VAC.   Sunday morning we have a PT workout program. Participants meet at the VAC by 0830 hrs, there is a walk to World Gym (approx. 1 mile) 45-70 minutes of cross fit style work out under guidance of a certified personal trainer, then a 1 – mile walk cool down walk back to the VAC. Some Sundays will also include breakfast at the VAC after the workout and then a physical fitness lecture.   There are food, toiletries and cleaning supplies at the VAC for any Veteran in need. We also maintain an offsite furniture storage facility if a Veteran is in need of furniture.   If anyone has family serving in the Military, please have them provide us with Service Members addresses and we will provide Care Packages to the Troops.   Coming soon! Every Tuesday evening. Veteran Peer Support Group. We encourage all Veterans of any era struggling since their return Home & transition to attend. Please realize you are not alone, many are in the same shoes you walk in. Weekly peer group starts at 1930 hrs. in group room. Coffee, snacks, food, refreshments available 1900 hrs. We will be grilling burgers for the summer season each night starting at 1900. Group mentors are: Iraqi War Veteran Navy Corpsman & Afghanistan War Army Medic. All meetings are anonymous; there is no paperwork, no fees. Anything mentioned in groups stay in groups. We do ask that you do show your VA ID card or DD-214 to the group mentor at your first group meeting. If you need additional resources please mention it to a BOTGNY member or call 631-615-2200 and we will get you in the right direction with the right contacts.
